THE FACE BEHIND THE CAMERA
Based in Calgary, Alberta, I (Angelina Kharchenko) have been recording just about everything (and everyone) for as long as memory - and an endlessly full camera roll - can attest.
My childhood was deeply immersed in the arts. Dance, vocal training, piano, visual art, literary pursuits, and carpentry formed the foundation of my creative education, shaping a curiosity for all things.
While my early aspirations leant toward a ballerina pop star future, I eventually took a quieter, more observant path. Photographing and filming the everyday, slowly building a visual archive, I discovered a way to hold onto moments that might otherwise slip past unnoticed.
I have never believed that the act of taking a photo diminishes a moment. Rather, it preserves it. Whether shared or held privately, images allow emotion to be revisited time and time again. I feel a responsibility to capture these fragments of lived experience, so that in time, I (or you) may step back into them and remember how they once felt.
Today, I approach photography as both observer and translator. My work focuses on capturing moments as they truly feel, revealing beauty in the ordinary and meaning in the seemingly mundane - often the kind you don’t notice until someone shows you where to look.
I strive to keep my shoots grounded and giggly, where comfort and trust take precedence and images can unfold with honesty.
Until now, my work has largely been shaped through private commissions and word of mouth alone. However, I am now publicly opening my books and am thrilled to welcome new collaborations.
I greatly look forward to the moments yet to be captured!
